Make a footstool from scratch at this combined two day workshop - in association with ‘Dovetail Woodworking’ - you can make and upholster a beautifully crafted footstool from start to finish - using both cabinet making and upholstery skills. There is an emphasis on traditional methods of both woodworking and upholstery, to give a unique experience in two different crafts. You will spend the first day making the solid timber stool at the workbench under the tuition of the vastly experienced cabinet maker, Steve, of Dovetail Woodworking. Having spent 40 years in the industry Steve offers expert tuition in the use of both machine and hand tools. Day two, will see you in the experienced hands of Katie (who runs Meticulous) upholstering the stool using a combination of traditional and modern methods and materials. Katie has 10 years experience in upholstery and teaching craft skills, having worked in the furniture industry as a City & Guilds trainer. Both day’s tuition will be at Spode Works ACAVA studios. Dovetail Woodworking: After leaving secondary school, Steve joined a family-run firm in Newcastle-under-Lyme, where he worked as a cabinet maker for 39 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in many aspects of woodworking, including: antique repair, the making of free-standing and fitted furniture (both traditional and contemporary) and numerous commercial projects - such as the box office desk at the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme. In 2018 Steve decided pass on his wealth of knowledge to those wishing to develop their woodworking skills. BOOKING: This course is available to book via the co-host Dovetail Woodworking.
