Course Description

A creative day to make, mend & unwind — save 15% no experience needed, just enthusiasm! If you want to try out upholstery or 'hop on' and 'hop off' when you need some guidance, or have the time, this class is for you. Timings & dates: From 10am-3pm. Either a Saturday or Sunday. You will be learning in a relaxed but purposeful environment with plentiful tea, coffee and biscuits. Class sizes: A maximum of 3 students per session, so you will get plenty of guidance. Projects: For a one day workshop - an ideal beginners project would be a footstool, drop in dining chair pads or a covered dining chair with a covered seat only. A nursing chair with a covered seat and back would be an ideal intermediate or 'improver's' project (you have some upholstery experience). A wing-chair or small arm chair would be an advanced project, which also requires the sewing of a box cushion. A wing back chair can take 6-8 day- long sessions. Upon booking, Katie will request that you email a photo of your project. Just to check that it is a suitable piece. Your wooden frame should be sound and not require repair. Tuition: Traditional or modern techniques taught, full re-upholstery or recovering using demonstrations and one-to-one work with Katie. Preparation: you will need to bring along a chair or frame and supply top cover fabric. You're welcome to remove coverings during the class to receive guidance on the proper stripping techniques....but it saves time to bring your furniture stripped of old coverings so you can dive straight in to the upholstery! I’d strongly recommend stripping down before attending. Tool hire and sundries included. Further materials (e.g foam, hessian) will be noted and charged at a student discount rate at the end of the session. Available in either half or full-meter widths.
