Our Story

Meticulous was launched by owner Katie, to share her passion for creative upholstery and furniture restoration, through upholstery courses and commissions.

Katie is a City & Guilds qualified upholsterer and maker with a degree in the History of Art & Design and an MA in Heritage Management. She has taught craft skills for the past 15 years, working with apprentices in the furniture industry as a City & Guilds Trainer/Assessor and as a qualified teacher. Before her upholstery training, she worked for organisations including The National Archives and the National Trust, where she gained special insight into the history of designed objects and the stories they tell.

Restoring and renewing well-made furniture is part of moving away from a wasteful way of living and towards a more sustainable relationship with the objects around us. Katie loves sharing and using heritage craft skills to give quality furniture a new lease of life. Each vintage chair tells a story; using traditional processes and beautiful fabrics creates a new chapter for each piece.
