Course Description

These sessions can be used in different ways, dependent upon your needs. For example, 3 hours would be suitable for smaller projects for beginners - such as recovering several modern (with foam stuffing) drop in dining chairs. For improvers, and more experienced learners, help and advice on more complex projects can be given. Both modern and traditional techniques can be used dependent upon the project. Please note that chairs only can be accommodated in the workshop. If your chair requires the making of a box cushion or you would like to learn how to make them, this would usually take a full session of private tuition for an inexperienced machinist. A good level of prior sewing knowledge is helpful - for example having previously made a scatter cushion with a zip would stand you in good stead. Please bear in mind that upholstery, particularly traditional upholstery, is a labour intensive skill, which takes years of practice. For example, complete traditional reupholstery of a sprung dining chair would take a beginner up to 15 hours with one-to-one tuition. Of course, once you have completed one chair with private tuition, you could go on to complete a small set and practice your skills. Booking & Payment Sessions are available to book via contacting Katie directly and are available at a mutually convenient time. Private tuition is not available on Fridays or Sundays.
